A Beauty at Burgh Castle

Burgh Castle ruins, a beautiful early summer evening, with a lovely family, and a delightful young lady that was the star of the show. Light to die for….What could go wrong?

Potentially, quite a bit I suppose. Our star is a toddler, which, I would say is the most challenging age group to photograph. This isn't due to behavioural issues, not at all, but purely down to children of that age being inquisitive and enjoying the new surroundings they are put in, exactly how kids should be at that age. So getting their attention isn't going to happen too much.

As a side note...I think generally parents worry about the behaviour of children during a photo shoot, but to be honest I don't. I'm relaxed about it all, and am more than happy to let the children be children, after all it's the reason why the final photos work. No stuffy studio, no confined areas, just kids being themselves….and the result….just see for yourself.

So back to this shoot. As I mentioned previously, expecting a toddler to give you an hour of undivided attention isn't going to happen. So I have a wild and devilish way of dealing with this…I sit, stand or wander patiently with them and capture the moments as they arrive. It's by far the most satisfying method of photographing the cutest stage of childhood. It was around 10 minutes after my camera had made an appearance out of my bag before I took the first shot, you really can't rush these things. I let the little star run the show at her own pace. She played with flowers, walked through the grass, chased Mum and Dad, played peep-bo, and peeked through barred gates, all against one of the most fantastic of local backdrops.

What do they say? Never work with children or animals. To be honest, my photographic life would be a very, dull time if I didn't, and quite honestly it's why I loving doing what I do so much.
Don't let time fly by without capturing your family while they're young. These precious times don't last forever, contact me for further details here…I'm waiting to hear from you!
