Another Stunning Senior

20th July 2016

Disappointing as the summer has been from a weather point of view, my senior photograph subjects have been quite the opposite. This session was the second in the series of 'senior shoots' that I'm running over the summer months, with the star of this particular show being Emily. You can see the first session in this blog post.

As is usual, this photo session was carried out in the evening, ready for the beautiful, warm light before the sun goes down......well, that was the plan. Of course, being at the mercy of the British Summer, means we are often left disappointed.....
Ok, so the sun didn't make an appearance, and in fact, we even felt a spot of rain during the shoot, but all was not that bad. Although the common conception is that sunny is best for portrait photos, that isn't necessarily the case. Yes, the low, late evening sun is beautiful, but anything too bright and high can be problematic. A bit of cloud, however, is the perfect natural diffuser, evening out the light wonderfully. So the fact that the sun was being a bit shy wasn't really an issue.

It's difficult for the ruins at Burgh Castle to look dowdy or unappealing, even under cloudy skies, so I was confident that this session would be successful, why wouldn't it? A lovely young lady modelling, and one of Norfolk's finest backdrops to to work in.
We started shooting on the bridge down near the river, before working back up to the church via the meadows inside and outside the walls. As usual there was a fair amount of people enjoying the area, so the occasional break was needed to allow backgrounds to clear. It was all very sedate. No mad dashes to catch fleeting appearances of the sun, just the concern that the clouds might yield rain, but we escaped that particular British summertime treat.

I am told regularly that modelling isn't as easy as it looks, and I'm sure it isn't. There is a lot to think about whilst posing for the camera, hence why I tend to keep things as simple and natural as possible. Emily did a great job, following directions superbly. I'd like to say a big thank you to Emily and her Mum for giving up their time so I could run this session. It's help like this, that helps me to keep practising (and developing)....standing still is not an option!

Senior portrait sessions are aimed at recent school or college leavers, to document that particular milestone in their lives. As with all portrait photography, it makes a fantastic keepsake to look back on (particularly for the parents). So if you're interested in having a Senior session, (or indeed, any other Portrait session), please contact me for details via the Contact Page.
