Eyes On The Prize

24th December 2024

Meet Sarah. Sarah is amazing, and I'll tell you why later...

She won a competition draw earlier this year, one run in conjunction with my Eterno Boudoir Email List. Other than having the shoot for free, the same process is followed as every other Boudoir session, the first stage being the consultation. It’s at this point I get to understand how women feel about their up and coming photo session. Sarah was no different to most during her chat. Excited, but nervous, with an undercurrent of self-doubt about how she’d look in her photos…nothing unusual there. Although I do find it a little sad that this is the norm, but I guess if every lady felt fantastic about herself, then they probably wouldn’t get as much from their Boudoir experience as they do…? (Just a thought.)

As much as the consultation does actually relieve a lot of the anxieties and answer many questions about what will happen during the actual photo session, there are always a few nerves in the day itself. This is perfectly normal, after all, this is well out of the comfort zone of practically everyone having their first Boudoir shoot.
Sarah was, by her own admission, feeling a bit nervous when I arrived for the photo session. As usual, though, it wasn’t too far into the session before the nerves lifted.

So, why do I think she is amazing? The irony here is that, despite Sarah’s obvious nerves, some of the shots we took were actually very daring (relatively speaking of course). I did the usual array of different sets of images, but the implied nude ones I think are particularly beautiful. I love photographing new poses, and these were definitely new. Apart from Sarah looking as fantastic as she did, we were blessed with some particularly bright sunshine flooding into the room for the window shots.
But I digress...the point I want to make here, is that despite being nervous or apprehensive about having a Boudoir session, it is always best to push yourself as far as you dare go….I don’t mean push the bounds of decency, but embrace the fact that you are having the photo shoot, and seize the moment…..regret is not a feeling you want to be left with, and to have a shoot feeling disappointed that you should have been a bit more daring, or wishing you tried that pose, is one thing I hate to hear.

Why do I say this?
Because it has happened before, and it’s a very difficult one for me to coach.
I have always (and will continue to) work within your comfort zone during the photo session, and I will be led by you, not the other way around. If you feel dubious or uncomfortable at any point, my advice is stop, and we’ll work on something else….absolutely not a problem. However, I cannot tell if a hesitation is a deep feeling of discomfort, or a moment of ‘I really want to but might look silly’.
Like any point or question during the whole Eterno Boudoir experience, I’m happy to talk and discuss, it really does help. I never judge, and I’m very patient too….and if I’m honest, it’s nothing that I probably haven’t already heard (and overcome before).

What Sarah Said...

“I was the lucky winner of the draw in March and I cannot explain how delighted I was with the whole experience. Martin was amazing and very professional from the first meeting right through to delivering my photographs. He was very reassuring and patient on the day of my shoot ( as I was a little nervous!) and effortlessly put my mind at ease and made me feel very comfortable.
I absolutely love my photos ( I never usually say that when I see a photo of myself) and have been showing them to all of my family and friends!
This experience has definitely made me feel more comfortable and confident in myself and I would highly recommend everyone to have one.
Thank you Martin”
