Giving A Little Back

I have a lot of plans for 2018. Many are ways to expand my business, but one is my way of giving back. I’ve always supported local charities where possible by donating free photo sessions etc for raffles and draws. This is all well and good (and something I will continue to do), but I want to do something a bit more consistent. So for the first time, I will be donating a proportion of my session fees and collections to a nominated charity. Eventually the intention is to get my social media followers to vote for their preferred choice from a short list of charities, but for now I have chosen one which bears some importance to my business.

Back in 2015 I sponsored a lovely young lady, Molly Spinks, and her entry to Miss England, a beauty contest with a difference. There were many aspects to the competition, including charity fundraising tasks, which Molly threw herself into whole-heartedly. Happily, she won the Miss Social Media Queen in the regional heats to qualify for the semi-finals, although unfortunately she didn’t manage to get further than this stage. As part of her sponsorship I worked with Molly on two photo sessions, one portrait and one Boudoir. It was during this time I met Molly’s mam, Rena.
I got to talk to her on a few occasions during the shoot/consultation process, and during these times and chats realised the she was an incredible lady, with a wonderful outlook on life, and an amazing love for her children.
She was a great supporter of my Boudoir work too, understanding the obvious positive effects it had on women, and quite often posted on social media supporting messages, of which I will always be grateful.

Rena was clearly loved and adored by her family (and many others too). It was obvious that her unwavering support was the reason that Molly and her siblings had turned out to be three of the nicest and giving young people you’d want to meet. Unfortunately all was not so well with Rena, she suffered with chronic asthma for many years, which impacted her life greatly, spending a lot of time in hospital to help with her symptoms, and sadly she passed away in 2016.
Since then Molly and her family have continued to support Rena’s chosen charity Asthma UK, with some even running the London Marathon to raise funds. It’s this charity that, in memory of Rena, I have chosen to support in 2018.

I’ll donate £5 from every portrait or Boudoir session fee I receive in 2018, and top this up with another £5 when a customer purchases one of my top collections from either genre. At year end I’ll round up the total to the nearest £100.
I’m hopeful that I can raise a decent amount for a good cause. Are you with me?
