Portraits - My 25 Favourite Images of the Decade

30th December 2025
In: Blog

I first picked up a DSLR camera around 13 years ago and so began my love of photography. Initially it was purely to capture landscapes, but within a short time portrait photography crept into the mix, with family and friends being my early models. Mixing my love of photographing outdoors with my new found enjoyment of portraiture, I was soon capturing for friends of friends and getting enquiries from many more. It was at this point Martin J Patterson Photography was born. Nine years of working professionally in portrait photography has left me with some wonderful memories all of which are captured through the images taken during the numerous photo shoots I have had the pleasure to work on.
So 2019 is nearly done, and with it comes the end of the decade. I thought it would be good to look back with some of my favourite images over those nine years. I’ve whittled it down to 25, but in truth I could have included many more. Ask me again in a few weeks and even those chosen here will, in likelihood, be very different, but that’s the beauty of photography, it is art, and therefore depends on the emotion of the viewer at the time of seeing the image, and why I never get bored of it.
So here we are, my favourite 25 images, in no particular order for you to enjoy....
