Prom Night

23rd July 2017
I'll be honest, the concept of the High school prom is a complete mystery to me. When I left school, we gathered on the school field on the final day, signed each other's shirts and went home (ish). Never to return.

I've seen them become popular over the past few years, but only through social media platforms, where proud parents share photos of sons and daughters glammed up in suits and gowns ready to embark on their big night out.
This year, I've been involved in not one, but two prom nights. I was lucky enough to be asked to photographed two young ladies prior to heading out for their big night. One of which I'm sharing here.

I was, of course, working to a pretty strict deadline. Some of it self-imposed. Obviously the young lady, in this case Daisy, did have somewhere to be, and I was acutely aware that with the gathering of family and friends wanting to spend some time with the girl of the hour, and I would be in the way. That wasn't a problem. I'm very used to working quickly, and thinking on my feet, and if I'm honest, the brief was fairly simple.

So we (Daisy and I) stepped out into the beautiful family garden to begin the session. Daisy, however, didn't look too comfortable as she turned to face me. I thought it was me, but her eyes looked straight past me. I turned to follow her gaze to see quite an audience gathered on the patio to watch the show. I can't blame them, they were all excited to see Daisy looking so beautiful in her evening wear, but clearly the comfort of any of my photo subjects is paramount. After a bit of ushering we managed to return them to confines of the house, and carried on.

Starting with some close-up shots of Daisy, we then moved on to capture some longer, full length images recording her and her stunning dress.
Then it was onto incorporating family and friends into the session, all queueing up to have a shot or two with Daisy.

This included her date for the evening, all suited and booted. Both looking very smart and excited for the night ahead….maybe there is something in this prom malarky after all!
