The Pensons

08th May 2017

I always love a 'first'. It means something I've done or been somewhere something different. You will have seen one or two familiar locations in my portrait work, that pop up very regularly, however, you won't have seen this one. Lound Lakes.

The Penson family chose this place for their photo session, one which I was unfamiliar with, but was happy to try. I did scout two areas of the reserve to make sure I had a choice of locations to suit what ever mother nature sent our way in the way of weather. As it happens, the day itself was fairly windy, but one particular area I had found was sheltered, and with a pretty backdrop short it was ideal!

I was really looking forward to this session. I'd met the Pensons at their consultation, and was bowled over by the enthusiasm they had shown towards having their family portraits taken. It a great feeling when a customer just gets what you do and why.
Although the location was new, the reason behind this session was a particularly familiar one. It had been far too long since the family had had some portraits taken, so this shoot was long overdue.

Talking of the photo session....
It was very straightforward to be honest. Mum, Dad and two beautiful daughters, nothing could have been simpler. As I have talked about before, family photo shoots are not only fun for the family, but for me too, and it was really interesting to see the different personalities of the two girls. How they come across differently in front of the camera, either individually or together. Being a Dad of three boys, I'm used to a fairly more boisterous relationship between siblings, so this calmer one was a welcome change.

I mixed things up as usual; group shots, pairs -the girls, Mum and Dad, individual shots of the girls, with some of Mum too. All this was helped with some beautiful back lighting throughout the session, which always enhances a portrait image beautifully.
